About Us

The Riverside Community Garden, hosted on Ascension Lutheran Church land, is an Illinois not-for-profit community service organization dedicated to bringing the benefits of food growing to Riverside. The garden was built in spring 2019 by community volunteers.

The garden is funded by community donations, grants, and the generous labor of the garden volunteers.

What We Do

Promote food growing within the community.

  • Teach gardening classes.

  • Host seed and plant swap events.

  • Host community work days.

  • Run a community composting program.

  • Maintain a Little Free Seed Library.

  • Share information, answer questions, and cultivate community in our Facebook Group.

Provide produce to food insecure individuals and families.

  • Donate produce to food pantries.

  • Host U-pick events open to all.

  • Deliver produce to community members.

  • Provide holiday meals for local families.

Build community through partnerships with local organizations.

  • Provide tours and meeting space for student groups.

  • Host yoga classes with Back to Nature.

  • Host storytime with the Riverside Public Library.
